Position Summary

The Shop & Warehouse Manager is responsible for managing all elements of Harbor Entertainment’s shop and warehouse. This includes:

  • Organization and inventory of all shop/ warehouse elements 
  • Coordinating shipping and receiving 
  • Fabrication and packing of shipping crates and custom event and exhibit elements 
  • Working on-site to setup and breakdown built elements of Harbor jobs

This position is a full time position that requires flexible hours and travel. The Shop & Warehouse Manager will report to the Founder and Creative Director equally.

Duties and Responsibilities

Shop & Warehouse Management

  • Organization of all event and exhibit materials in the warehouse 
    • Thorough understanding of all materials stored in the warehouse at all times 
    • Create and use asset tags for exhibit materials where applicable 
    • Update inventory sheets and/or pack sheets as exhibit booths and materials change 
    • Utilize forklift and palate jacks to organize and move crates and materials between shop/ warehouse space, two semi-trailers, and two container units
    • Anticipating storage needs and making adjustments as needed
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop at all times to include:
    • All tools stored in the designated areas at the end of each day
    • Ensure that tools and shop equipment are secured, locked, and powered down at the end of each day
    • Weekly sweeping and dust collection
    • Proper maintenance and repair of all shop equipment and tools – all equipment/tools to be checked monthly for blade issues, dust issues and any repairs that need to be made 
    • Ensure all stored items are properly labeled and housed in a protective container
    • Take stock of supplies and order materials as needed
  • Responsible for shop safety and the safety of those working in the area
    • Responsible for implementation of Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) and safety audits
    • Responsible for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
    • Safely use tools such as table saws, bandsaw, shaper, sanders, hammer, staple gun, electric drill, nail gun, palm sander, and equipment typically found in the woodshop
  • Manage timeline for warehouse related projects
    • Communicating timeline needs with the team 
    • Sorting and moving necessary items to support shop and warehouse projects
  • Supervision of any day-labor or other Harbor Entertainment staff working in and around the warehouse.
    • Ensure all day-labor has completed basic shop training
    • Ensure all day-labor understands clock in and out process 
    • Ensure all day-labor has turned in any reimbursement forms and receipts where applicable
  • Track and organize receipts for any warehouse and shop expenses 

Shipping & Logistics 

  • Manage crates and/or any packing needs required for any items that need to travel
    • Knowledge of best practices when packing materials for shipment
    • Knowledge of best practices when packing vehicles such as a transit van, box truck and semi-trailer 
  • Shipping and receiving of all items coming in or out of Harbor Entertainment
    • Working directly with the founder to understand all inbound and outbound shipments and timelines 
    • Organizing and keeping track of all BOL’s 
    • Updating the team and adding to google calendar all shipping and receiving dates
    • Timely communication via email and phone with shipping carriers and drivers  
    • Prepping crates and final check of pack sheets for exhibits and materials outbound
    • Receiving and checking inventory of all inbound crates
  • Ability to drive a transit van, a 16’ or 26’ box truck to transport event and exhibit materials to and from the event site

Carpentry & Fabrication

  • Plan and fabricate wood crates for travel and shipping 
  • Work with team to fabricate components as directed including  working with wood, plastics, and or metals
  • Finish work including sanding, painting, wrapping vinyl graphics, assembly, ect. 
  • Learning and understanding prefabricated components of event and exhibit systems 
    • Noting and coordinating maintenance where needed on these elements
    • Understand and cataloging setup docs and guides from the manufacturers in google drive where applicable 
  • Assist in creating build plans and on-site build documents in Google slides where applicable 

On-site Event Support

  • Available to travel to event site to assist with loading in and out events, exhibits and custom builds
  • Ability to work with and confidently lead on-site personnel including hired day labor and other Harbor team members 

Other Duties/Responsibilities May Include:

  • Function as a general “runner” and/or assistant during events as needed

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One year of shop/warehouse experience
  • Preferred relevant experience could include:
    • Project management, shop management, or inventory management 
    • CDL license or experience driving box trucks and sprinter vans in any capacity 
    • Print shop or sign shop experience
    • Auto body or mechanic experience
    • Carpentry, wood shop, metal work, plastic work or finishing and painting experience
    • CAD experience
    • Knowledge of CNC software, CNC machinery, or router tables of any kind

    • Must be able to work with staff/ or day-labor to complete job efficiently
    • Delegating properly to make sure team members have what they need
  • Set up and operate woodworking machines such as power saws, bandsaw, planer, and sanders
  • Utilize hand tools such as drills, screwdrivers, hammers
  • Operate a forklift
  • Operate pallet jacks
  • Utilize packing materials, truck straps, load bars, tie downs, etc. 
  • Ability to operate large vehicles including transit van, up to 26’ box truck and pull behind trailers 
  • Professional appearance and persona
  • Google Business, Microsoft Office, both Mac and PC proficient
  • Read and use a tape measure
  • Able to read and write in English

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

Good physical strength and stamina is required, this job is extremely hands on. This position will include working in many conditions and environments including outdoors and on location when traveling. 

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Spends the majority of the time walking/standing and talking/hearing
  • The workday includes kneeling/crouching/stooping, using hands and reaching
  • Frequent lifting required of items 50 pounds plus
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator masks, and hard hats when needed
